Certificate of Occupancy
You must have a Certificate of Occupancy for your business to apply for a Building Permit. This step is done during the Business Registration Process. The Certificate must match the current use of the business.
Building Permit
If you plan on making any repair, alteration, or addition to a commercial location, you must submit a Building Permit Application with the Building & Planning Department.
Sign/Awning Permit Application
If you plan on altering your business sign/awning, you must submit the Sign/Awning Permit Application with the Building & Planning Department. With this, you must have a NYS Workers Compensation Certificate, General Liability Certificate of Insurance, Certificate of Occupancy, Business Registration Certificate, Proof of Ownership, and an Operating License. An Operating License is only required for restaurants, places of food and drink amusement, entertainment. (§ Section 85-8 of the VOPJ code).
